Cartier Santos-Dumont XL Hand-Wind - Silver Dial, Ref. W2SA0017 (2020)

The Cartier Santos-Dumont takes its name from Alberto Santos-Dumont, the Brazilian aviation pioneer for whom Louis Cartier created a wristwatch in 1904 so he could check the time mid-flight without removing his hands from the controls, an innovation widely credited as the first men's wristwatch. The Santos-Dumont's square case with exposed screws remains one of watchmaking's most historically significant designs.

This XL example carries a hand-wind movement and a silver dial, staying true to the model's original proportions and mechanical character rather than the automatic movements found in some modern Cartier pieces. The aviator-inspired case shape, with its clean lines and visible bezel screws, has changed remarkably little since Santos-Dumont's original commission over a century ago.
